For Such a Small rod. It sure delivers. I have it equipped w/ the new Aldebaran DC. It throws smaller lures far. I wade here in the Tampa Bay Area. And absolutely love it. Landed some giant Trout. Absolutely delivers. I will be a customer for life. The handle feels perfect into my palm. Like it was made for my hands. I have big hands. Sensitive, Strong and lite. What else can you ask for.
This is an initial review and will be followed up on its fishing capabilities once the weather breaks and the fish respond. My initial impression is very high on the rod over all. It really is as light as the specs say it is. I do love the action and can feel the power attribute of its BFS designation. This is not a typical noodle tipped BFS like many refer to on the Blue Line trout streams. BFS's are a diverse dichotomy of fineness light tackle fishing this rod did handle the light lures with ease but the power could also be felt through out varied casting distances. I did try a couple of BFS reels on it and it balanced quite well with my Abu Garcia conversion and a Shimano Conquest. I would love to see this rod in a multi piece option for transportation and travel benefits. I am really impressed with Old 18 and sence they have quite a good chemistry where these rods are created. My order was shipped fast and the rod was also shipped with more care than any rod I have ordered previously from other rod companies. It was actually enjoyable to inspect this rod's quality and see the precision of build that was evident from tip to butt. The spline was perfect too. All the guide wraps were excellent and consistent. Initially I was skeptical of carbon grips but the carbon grip on this rod surprised me in its comfort and its shape, I am a convert after this rod and I will be buying more from Old 18. I did look for a dedicated Frog Rod and would love to see that dedication be made. Old 18 has a lot going for them and I will revisit this initial review once I get a good run on this springs big bass. I fish several known big bass lakes in Texas and my home state is St Johns river in Florida.
Buoyancy 7'0" Ultra Light Casting Mod Fast
I have 11 Old18 rods from the Midnight on down. The Bouyancy series is my favorite. Light and sensitive, great feel in hand and fun to fish with. Look forward to see what rods they come up with next. Would like to see some longer (7’6”+) in light and medium light for smallmouth.
Already have an ultra light 7’ Suppressor; picked up this Buoyancy rod to complement the Suppressor. The fit and finish of the rod is great; it’s super lightweight and has a great moderate action. Took it out this past weekend paired with a Gekkabijin BFS and it performed like a dream. Didn’t throw anything lighter than 1/16oz, but the 1/16oz lures I threw went a country mile and hit every target I chose. Biggest fish I landed was a catfish that weighed a tad over 3.5lbs. Super fun fight and brought her in no problem. If you enjoy BFS you will love Old 18’s ultralight casting gear. Very happy with this rod and proud to support Old 18! 👍🏼
UPDATE: 2/13/26 - Fished with the set-up above again today and hooked into a 16lb catfish. Buoyancy Ultralight never missed a beat. Rod was doubled over the entire 30-minute fight. Super impressed with how lightweight and strong these Old 18 Buoyancy rods are. If you are on the fence, pull the trigger on one of these rods. Can’t beat their performance + the sale price is a great deal. No regrets. Tight lines!
